HP and Relational have entered into a letter agreement under which Relational will support the HP board, and the board will nominate and support Whitworth, for the next two years, as long as Relational continues to be a significant stockholder of HP. A copy of the agreement is included as an exhibit to a Current Report on Form 8-K filed by HP today with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

While Cloud Steelhead is pretty cool, as a storage guy I spent more time at Riverbed’s announcement event looking at their Whitewater storage appliance. Whitewater, which is completely unrelated to the Whitewater Development Corp. or Bill Clinton, acts as a gateway and accelerator to cloud storage providers for backup applications. Steelhead Discovery Agents act as connection brokers so administrators don’t have to keep track of where in the cloud their servers, or the Cloud Steelhead is located. The whole shebang is managed through a web portal.

More than 125 highly skilled engineers will work in the 100 square-meter raised floor laboratory and harden IBM software products through technology deployment and software development, code writing and testing, and bug fixing. In addition, the lab will perform rigorous quality assurance testing in customer-replicated topologies.

We have worked closely with IBM for many years to identify trends and partnerships. Given IBM’s deep understanding of the value of predictive analytics and optimization, it was clear that there were natural synergies between IBM and SignalDemand that could make a difference to the markets they serve.
