In the late 1980s, Steve McCanne, co-founder and chief technology officer at Riverbed and co-creator of TCPDUMP, wanted to find a reliable method to capture and efficiently analyze only the necessary network traffic, which led to the creation of TCPDUMP. During the same time in the 1990s, Gerald Combs, director of open source projects at Riverbed, started a weekend project based on a desire to find a more robust approach to analyze packet captures. Thus, Wireshark was born.

This new cloud-driven method for curating and analyzing massive amounts of patents, scientific content and molecular data. It uses techniques such as automated image analysis and enhanced optical recognition of chemical images and symbols to extract information from patents and literature upon publication.

It’s always had beautiful images, and breathing a little life into those images through video seemed like a natural evolution for the home page. Because a teacher’s job requires long hours preparing lessons, individualizing instruction and connecting with parents, having the technology tools they need to complete this work outside the classroom becomes essential.
